Nissan Qashqai Engine Mount: Specs, Fitment & Common Faults

On the Qashqai, a genuinely useful, free diagnostic technique checks for a worn mount by hand — plus why fixing one mount doesn't always fix every symptom.

Genuinely important to know: automatic and manual gearbox variants of the Qashqai sometimes use different transmission-side mounts, since the two gearbox types differ in weight and mounting points — confirm your transmission type as well as engine code before ordering.

A Genuinely Useful, Free Diagnostic Technique Worth Trying — Nissan Qashqai Engine Mount

With the engine off and appropriate care taken, you can often physically check for excessive play by attempting to move the engine by hand at accessible points — genuine, noticeable movement beyond a small amount of expected give indicates a worn mount. One documented case on a related model found the top mount had degraded to the point the engine could be moved by hand quite easily, confirming the diagnosis directly.

Genuinely worth knowing before assuming one repair fixes everything: different mounts can cause distinctly different symptoms, and fixing one doesn't necessarily fix all. One documented case replaced the top mount, which resolved vibration at idle completely, but a separate clunk specifically on and off the throttle persisted afterward, eventually traced to a completely different, badly worn gearbox mount that needed replacing separately.

It's also worth knowing that a genuine on/off-throttle "thump" or sudden takeup, distinct from a smooth judder, has been linked to a worn engine steady bar (torque strut) specifically — a component that controls engine rock under load and is worth checking alongside the more obvious mounts if this specific symptom pattern matches what you're experiencing.

What It Does

Engine mounts secure the engine and transmission to the chassis while absorbing vibration and movement, preventing that vibration from transferring directly into the cabin. Most versions of the Qashqai use several mounts working together — typically at least one on each side of the engine plus a torque mount — and a single failed mount can throw off the whole assembly's balance.
