A genuine, practical test worth doing before replacing anything: with the drive belt removed, try turning the pulley by hand in both directions — it should spin freely in one direction and lock solid in the other, thanks to the internal one-way clutch. If it doesn't behave this way (spins freely both ways, or is stiff in both directions), that confirms the decoupler pulley has failed. Some specialists can replace just the pulley itself rather than the full alternator, though in practice it's often more straightforward to replace the complete unit.
