Audi A5 Coupe Rear Bumper: Fitment, Sensors & Common Damage

On the A5, image distortion when turning the steering wheel is genuinely a documented issue on related models, distinct from simple wiring.

Generation covered: this guide is for the second-generation A5 Coupe (F5 platform, 2016–2024) — the two-door coupe discontinued when Audi renamed the A4 saloon to A5 in 2024. These are entirely different cars despite sharing a name; if your car is a four-door saloon or estate bought new since 2024, this guide does not apply to it. Check your logbook or VIN if you're unsure which car you have.

More Than Just a Plastic Panel

It's rarely a plain plastic panel on the Audi A5 Coupe: the rear bumper usually integrates parking sensors and a reversing camera housing, sometimes exhaust trim too, so a seemingly minor kerb scrape can end up needing more than a simple like-for-like swap.

Before you buy: bumper specification varies significantly by trim, particularly around parking sensor cutouts and camera housings. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Audi A5 Coupe Rear Bumper: OEM Part Number

Accuracy note: we weren't able to verify a confident single F5 rear bumper part number at the time of writing. Please confirm the correct part via an Audi dealer or parts specialist using your VIN.

As with the front bumper, expect the rear cover to vary by trim, parking sensor equipment, and whether the car has a surround-view camera system — a bumper with the wrong cutouts pre-moulded isn't a simple swap even if it fits physically.

Audi A5 Coupe Rear Bumper: What It Does

Beyond absorbing minor impacts, the rear bumper on higher trims of the A5 Coupe often houses parking sensors, a reversing camera, and sometimes integrated exhaust finishers. A bumper that looks compatible can still be missing the correct cutouts or wiring provisions for your specific trim's equipment.

A Genuinely Useful Piece of Context Worth Knowing About Reversing Camera Faults — Audi A5 Coupe Rear Bumper

If a retrofitted reversing camera image becomes distorted specifically when the steering wheel is turned, this is genuinely worth knowing: this is a documented issue in its own right on related Audi models, distinct from a simple wiring or power fault.

A genuinely useful clarification worth knowing about head unit wiring: on most modern head units, the connection labelled "reverse camera" is actually an input you pull low to switch display mode, rather than an output designed to supply power to the camera itself.

It's also genuinely worth knowing that some CANbus interface units genuinely can't provide enough current to both switch the head unit into camera mode and power the camera at the same time, and that fitting a towbar to certain performance variants isn't officially advised due to cooling concerns.
