JAGUAR TYPE 00 MODERN ICON · OVERVIEW

The Car That Made Jaguar Stop Selling Cars

In a genuinely unprecedented move, Jaguar paused all new car sales and production of its entire existing lineup to relaunch as an ultra-luxury, all-electric brand — and this concept, unveiled at Miami Art Week in December 2024, was the first glimpse of what that reinvention actually looks like.

A Deliberately Controversial First Statement

Few concept car reveals have generated this much genuine argument. The Type 00's design, influenced by Renaissance-era architecture and built around founder William Lyons's philosophy of "copy nothing," split opinion sharply between those who saw bold reinvention and those who saw a step too far from Jaguar's heritage.

History & Development

The two-door Type 00 concept debuted at Miami Art Week in December 2024, shown in two colourways — Miami Pink and London Blue — with butterfly doors and a stone-and-brass interior treatment unlike anything Jaguar had built before. It was never intended for production, serving instead to introduce the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform that will underpin an entirely new generation of Jaguars. Its four-door production successor has since been officially named the Type 01, with camouflaged prototypes tested extensively on UK roads and at Formula E's Monaco E-Prix ahead of a planned reveal in October 2026.

Design & Engineering

Early details point to a tri-motor electric powertrain producing more than 1,000PS and 1,300Nm of torque, a 120kWh battery targeting around 435 miles of WLTP range, and ultra-fast charging capable of adding 200 miles in as little as 15 minutes. Camouflaged prototypes suggest the production Type 01 will soften some of the concept's more extreme details into a more conventional four-door silhouette while retaining its low-slung stance and long bonnet.

Cultural Significance

Jaguar has been explicit that this new generation targets a far more exclusive, higher-priced segment than any Jaguar before it, aiming to compete directly with Bentley and Rolls-Royce rather than its traditional BMW and Mercedes rivals. As part of the relaunch, production of every existing Jaguar model, including the I-Pace, ended, with remaining dealer stock sold off as the brand created what it called "breathing space" ahead of this new era.

Value Today

As a concept car and pre-production prototype, the Type 00 and Type 01 aren't yet collectible in the traditional sense, though the scale of Jaguar's gamble makes this a genuinely significant moment to watch. Early estimates suggest production Type 01 pricing will comfortably exceed £120,000.
