Desirable MGs

MG's name literally stands for Morris Garages, a car dealership where a sales manager started tuning ordinary Morris models for fun. The MGB that grew out of that idea became Britain's best-selling sports car ever, with over 500,000 built.

Making Sports Car Ownership Realistic

Few marques did more to put genuine sports car driving within reach of ordinary buyers. Cecil Kimber, general manager at William Morris's Oxford dealership, began re-bodying and tuning standard Morris cars for a sportier look in the 1920s, and the initials of his employer's name, Morris Garages, stuck as the brand's badge ever since. That founding instinct for accessible performance reached its peak with the MGB, launched in 1962 with modern monocoque construction and genuinely sharp handling at a price ordinary enthusiasts could actually afford — over 500,000 were built across an eighteen-year run, making it the best-selling British sports car of all time.

That same philosophy of realistic, attainable sports car ownership carried straight through the earlier MGA too, which sold over 100,000 units in just seven years and exported the vast majority to America. Below is the model we've covered so far.
