Ford Ka+ Wing Mirror: Specs, Fitment & Common Faults

On the Ka+, the well-known power-fold clicking fault has a genuine, understood mechanical cause — not a random one-off defect.

Ford Ka+ Wing Mirror: OEM Part Number

Accuracy note: genuinely worth knowing: Ka+ mirrors with an integrated blind-spot or lane-change camera (increasingly common on higher trims) are significantly more expensive and less commonly available secondhand than a standard mirror — check whether your car has this feature before assuming a basic mirror will work.

The Famous "Click-Click" Powerfold Fault Has a Genuine, Understood Cause — Ford Ka+ Wing Mirror

If your power-folding mirror produces a repeating clicking noise when locking the car rather than folding smoothly, this is a genuinely well-documented Ford fault with a properly understood mechanical cause. Ford's power-fold mirrors use a simple timed relay with no current-sensing or motor-stall detection, meaning the motor keeps trying to wind the mirror inward for a couple of seconds even after it's already folded fully and physically stopped. Over time, the motor grinding against the mirror's internal case cog while stalled gradually deforms the cog's teeth, until the worm gear eventually skips past the damage entirely — producing the characteristic repeating click. This is understood as an inherent design characteristic across Ford's power-fold mirrors generally, not a fault specific to any one car or generation.

What this means for repair costs: once the cog teeth are damaged, replacing the mirror unit is generally the only fix — budget roughly £120 for the mirror plus around £50 labour, based on real owner quotes. Some confident DIYers have successfully repaired the internal mechanism themselves by disassembling the casing and addressing the worn cog directly, avoiding a full replacement.

More Electronics Hiding Inside Than Most People Realise

From the outside, a wing mirror looks like nothing more than glass and plastic, but modern versions pack in folding motors, heating elements, indicator lights, and sometimes blind-spot sensors — so "the mirror's broken" could point to several unrelated faults.

Before you buy: mirror specification varies significantly by trim — heated, power-folding, indicator-integrated and blind-spot-sensor versions are not interchangeable. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Driver's Side or Passenger Side? Sorting Out the Terminology

Ordering the wrong side is a genuinely common mistake with wing mirrors, partly because sellers, workshops and catalogues don't consistently agree on which side is which. On a right-hand-drive UK car:

Part listings may use any of these terms interchangeably — "RH mirror," "offside mirror," and "driver's side mirror" all refer to the same physical part on a UK-spec Ka+. Double-check which convention your supplier is using before ordering, since a mix-up here is one of the most common reasons the wrong mirror turns up.

Ford Ka+ Wing Mirror: What It Does

Beyond the obvious job of rear visibility, modern wing mirrors on higher trims of the Ka+ often integrate turn signal repeaters, puddle lights, heating elements to clear condensation, and power-fold motors for tight parking spaces. Higher-spec versions may also house blind-spot monitoring sensors, making them considerably more expensive to replace than a basic mirror.

Ford Ka+ Wing Mirror: Generations, Derivatives, Colour & Mirror Adjustment

Accuracy note: mirror covers colour-match the body — see notes below. Manual vs. electric adjustment and heated glass are general patterns by trim and era, not a substitute for confirming your exact derivative via VIN, since even within one generation the base specification can differ from what's typical for that era. This applies equally to the driver's side and passenger side mirror, which always match in adjustment type and heating.
Standard trimsFrozen White, Panther Black, Race Red, Moondust Silver; electric adjustment is standard on most trims from this generation, with heated glass increasingly common too — though the most basic specification may still be manual; confirm your exact trim
Black and White EditionsA genuine limited-run pairing Midnight Black with Crystal White (or vice versa) in contrasting body/roof/mirror combinations, with unique Pearl White-detailed seats — not available as a mix-and-match option on standard trims; electric adjustment is standard on most trims from this generation, with heated glass increasingly common too — though the most basic specification may still be manual; confirm your exact trim
