The Part That Fails Quietly Until It Doesn't

Degradation here is usually gradual — a slightly dimmer beam, a faint flicker on start-up — right up until the moment it isn't gradual anymore and you're left with one working light on a dark road. Catching the early signs saves a roadside scramble later.

Before you buy: headlight unit and bulb specifications vary by trim, model year and whether your car has factory LED, halogen or adaptive lighting. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Accuracy note: the Corolla Saloon and Hatchback use different headlight assemblies on this generation, and LED vs halogen and Nightshade trim also affect the correct part. Confirm all three before ordering.

This is a part where getting the body style, trim, and bulb type all correct really matters — a Saloon headlight will not fit a Hatchback, and standard trims use a different assembly to Nightshade Edition cars even within the same body style.

Beyond the obvious — lighting the road ahead — modern headlight units often integrate daytime running lights, indicators, and on higher trims, adaptive beam-shaping that adjusts based on speed and steering angle. A single failing component inside the unit can affect several of these functions at once.

Older generations, base trims	Halogen as standard
12th-gen (2019–present), L/LE trims	Bi-LED — a single projector lens handles both low and high beam
12th-gen, SE/XLE/XSE and GR Sport	Genuine "Triple-Beam" LED design using multiple LED elements and reflectors — confirmed as a completely different, non-interchangeable system from Bi-LED, with a different wiring harness; upgrading from Bi-LED to Triple-Beam isn't a simple swap and can cost thousands in harness changes
Higher trims	Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), which pivots the beam as you steer, is available on top-spec cars — units with AFS need electronic calibration with a scan tool after replacement, not just physical aiming
