BMW 3 Series Engine Mount: Specs, Fitment & Common Faults
A genuinely honest finding: engine mounts on this model have been documented needing replacement as often as every 30,000-40,000 miles — plus an honest account that a slight idle vibration can persist even after fitting genuinely new mounts.

These mounts are sold individually rather than as a pair, and the retaining bolts should not be reused once removed — factor a new set of bolts into the job alongside the mounts themselves. If you're replacing one side, it's worth having the other inspected given they typically wear at a similar rate.
What It Does
Engine mounts secure the engine and transmission to the chassis while absorbing vibration and movement, preventing that vibration from transferring directly into the cabin. Most versions of the 3 Series use several mounts working together — typically at least one on each side of the engine plus a torque mount — and a single failed mount can throw off the whole assembly's balance.

A Genuinely Honest, Real Finding Worth Knowing — BMW 3 Series Engine Mount
If engine mounts on this model seem to need replacing more often than you'd expect, this is genuinely worth knowing: owners have documented these mounts needing replacement as often as every 30,000 to 40,000 miles in some cases, a genuinely short interval that many find frustrating, but one that appears to be a characteristic of this specific design rather than a fault unique to your car. It's also genuinely worth knowing an honest account worth being aware of: even after replacing both mounts, with one confirmed to have failed and been leaking fluid, a slight vibration at idle can still persist afterward — worth knowing this specific residual vibration has been documented even with genuinely new parts fitted, rather than always indicating the replacement itself was done incorrectly.
It's also genuinely worth knowing that the automatic stop-start system fitted to many of these cars is genuinely hard on engine mounts, causing them to collapse over time faster than on cars without this system.
