Dacia Sandero Spark Plugs: Intervals, Fitment & Warning Signs

On the Sandero, a genuine fitment trap: NGK replacement coils are rated 14V versus the original 12V units.

Generation covered: this guide is for the third-generation Sandero (2020–present), with particular focus on 2020–2023 registered examples now old enough for parts to be a common search. Check your logbook or VIN if you're unsure which generation you have.

A Genuine Fitment Trap Worth Knowing Before Ordering Replacement Coils

If you're replacing ignition coils and considering NGK as an alternative to the original fitment, this is genuinely worth knowing: one documented case found NGK replacement coils specified as 14V, while the original factory-fitted Hitachi units were rated at 12V — a genuine voltage mismatch that may explain compatibility issues some owners have experienced when mixing brands.

A genuine, specific fix worth knowing if you find water inside the spark plug wells: disconnect the coil connector, remove the retaining bolt carefully, and allow the well and coil around 15 minutes to dry out completely. While waiting, remove, clean, and check the gap on the spark plugs themselves, then clean the coil's connector contacts with proper electrical contact cleaner before refitting everything.

It's also worth knowing why 3-cylinder engines often have a shorter plug replacement interval than you might expect on a low-mileage car: with fewer cylinders sharing the workload, each spark plug fires more frequently per crankshaft revolution, accelerating wear even at modest annual mileage.

Dacia Sandero Spark Plugs: A Cheap Part That Causes Expensive-Feeling Problems

On the Dacia Sandero, symptoms of worn spark plugs are subtle by nature — a touch rougher at idle, a little less responsive off the line — and easy to attribute to almost any other engine gremlin. Because the part itself is so cheap, it's routinely overlooked well past when it should've been changed.

Before you buy: plug type and gap specification vary by engine size and generation. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Dacia Sandero Spark Plugs: OEM Part Number

Accuracy note: we weren't able to verify a confident single Sandero spark plug part number at the time of writing. Please confirm the correct part via a Dacia dealer or parts specialist using your VIN.

The Sandero shares its CMF-B platform and engines with the Renault Clio, so it's worth checking parts listings under both car names — genuine components are frequently cross-listed given how much hardware the two share. Plug specification varies between the SCe naturally aspirated and TCe turbocharged engines.

Dacia Sandero Spark Plugs: What They Do

How well the Dacia Sandero's engine runs, how efficiently it burns fuel, and how smooth it feels are all tied to spark plug condition, since these ignite the compressed fuel-air mixture in each cylinder. That's a petrol-engine job specifically — diesels ignite fuel through compression and have no spark plugs at all.

Dacia Sandero Spark Plugs: Generations, Engines & Spark Plug Count

Diesel variants (dCi)Not applicable — diesel engines use compression ignition and have no spark plugs at all
0.9/1.0 TCe/SCe (standard petrol trims)Genuinely only 3 spark plugs — this small turbocharged engine (co-developed with Nissan) is shared across Renault, Dacia and even some Smart models, not a four-cylinder
1.3 TCe (higher trims, RS Line and similar)Genuinely 4 spark plugs — this larger engine (co-developed with Mercedes-Benz) is a completely different unit from the smaller 3-cylinder TCe, despite both sharing the "TCe" badge; confirm your exact engine before ordering
