OEM Part Number: Type 096

Accuracy note: The 308 T9 (2013–2021) uses a 278 mm type 096 on its stop-start BlueHDi diesels (70Ah / 760A EFB or AGM) and on most PureTech petrols, with a 242 mm type 027 EFB on some 1.2 PureTech 110s. Check the three-digit type code, Ah and CCA printed on the battery you are removing before ordering — this model was built in more than one size. Stop-start cars must have an EFB or AGM battery, never a standard one.

Before Assuming a Fault: Stop-Start Has Genuine Conditions for When It Won't Engage — Peugeot 308 Battery

A genuinely common source of "my stop-start doesn't work" confusion is worth ruling out first: Peugeot's own manual lists specific conditions where the system deliberately won't activate, including being on a steep slope, the driver's door being open, the seatbelt unfastened, not yet having reached 6mph since the last start, the electric parking brake being applied, or the system needing the engine running to maintain cabin temperature or demist the windscreen. If your stop-start seems inconsistent, it's worth checking whether one of these genuinely explains it before assuming a fault.

A genuinely important, real account worth knowing about if stop-start still won't work reliably after ruling out the above: one owner had a new Battery Protection Module fitted (costing around £400) along with a genuine replacement battery, and stop-start still only activated infrequently even after a long motorway run. Separately, a Peugeot dealer's own service manager reportedly experienced the identical fault on his own car despite twice-daily 45-minute motorway journeys, suggesting these later systems are genuinely sensitive to battery charge state in a way that even consistent long-distance driving doesn't always resolve. This is worth knowing simply to set realistic expectations — an expensive module and battery replacement doesn't guarantee a permanent fix.

It's also worth knowing that a genuine battery issue can cascade into seemingly unrelated faults on Stellantis vehicles — electric parking brake warnings, wipers stopping working, and economy mode activating together are a documented pattern after a battery is disconnected and reconnected, generally resolving once the car's systems are properly reset by a specialist rather than simply refitting the battery and expecting everything to recover on its own.
