A Genuine, Documented Cause on Older Astras: The CD30 Radio — Vauxhall Astra Battery
If your Astra is an older model (broadly Astra H era) and the battery keeps going flat despite the battery itself testing healthy, it's genuinely worth checking the factory-fit CD30 radio (made by Blaupunkt) before assuming a battery or alternator fault. Vauxhall issued a specific Technical Service Bulletin (reference 1973) covering a documented fault where a malfunctioning "CD-in-recognition" switch inside the radio causes it to self-activate, draining the battery overnight even with the car locked and the ignition off. Vauxhall's official remedy for cars within the affected production window was a modified replacement unit — but several owners with cars outside that specific window have reported the same fault still occurring, with Vauxhall declining to act since the cars technically fall outside the documented TSB range.
