Genuinely important to know: the engine code (not just the model name) is the reliable way to identify the correct A1 mount, since the same model was often sold with several different engines across its production run, and mounts are rarely interchangeable between them.

Audi A1 Engine Mount: What It Does

Engine mounts secure the engine and transmission to the chassis while absorbing vibration and movement, preventing that vibration from transferring directly into the cabin. Most versions of the A1 use several mounts working together — typically at least one on each side of the engine plus a torque mount — and a single failed mount can throw off the whole assembly's balance.

A Genuinely Useful Piece of Context Worth Knowing About Engine Mount Faults — Audi A1 Engine Mount

If you've recently had engine work done, this is genuinely worth knowing: documented cases on related Audi models describe engine mount bolts shearing off entirely while driving in the months following work that required removing a mount, with the theory being it wasn't properly resecured afterward.

A genuinely honest, real account worth knowing: a persistent clunk has, in documented cases, been traced not to a worn mount at all, but simply to a mounting bolt that had come loose, with re-tightening resolving it entirely at no cost.

It's also genuinely worth knowing that these mounts typically contain a silicone fluid that acts as a damper, and if this leaks out over time, the mount can eventually separate if left unaddressed.
