OEM Part Number: 27060-21010 (genuine alternator — confirm via VIN) — aftermarket alternators Bosch 0 986 049 970 / Denso DAN1011

Accuracy note: Covers the Toyota Verso (2009-2018) as listed in the UK aftermarket catalogues. Alternators are sold by output (amps), pulley type and plug, and the same model usually has two or three units depending on engine, start-stop and the electrical load of the trim — a 120 A unit on a car built for 150 A will undercharge, and a rigid pulley on a car designed for a freewheel clutch pulley will shred belts. The references below are UK aftermarket catalogue listings for this generation, labelled by brand; many are remanufactured exchange units that carry a core charge until the old alternator is returned. Genuine numbers are shown only where a listing quotes one. Check the amp rating, pulley and plug stamped on the old unit, or confirm via VIN, before ordering.
Alternators (aftermarket)Bosch 0 986 049 970 (100 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, remanufactured exchange, plug not stated, 163 mm length, excludes vacuum pump, core charge £51.61); Denso DAN1011 (100 A, freewheel pulley, 6 ribs, 55 mm, new, OE quality); Denso DAN1013 (130 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, OE quality); Denso DAN938 (100 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, alternative item DAN1317); Hella 8EL 015 630-681 (100 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, fitting by qualified personnel); AS-PL A6063 (130 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, plug PL_4002); AS-PL A6371 (150 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, plug PL_4002); Ridex 4G0119 (130 A, freewheel pulley, 7 ribs, 58 mm, new, plug L-IG-RLO-DFM, excludes vacuum pump).
Outputs & variantsThree outputs appear: 100 A units on a 55 mm six-rib freewheel pulley (the smaller petrol pattern, DAN1011 and A6061 type) and 100 A units on a 58 mm seven-rib pulley; 130 A units on a 58 mm seven-rib freewheel pulley (DAN1013, A6063, 4G0119); and a single 150 A seven-rib unit (AS-PL A6371). Every unit listed carries a freewheel (overrunning) pulley, so a rigid pulley is not an option for this generation.
Genuine (OE) numbers quotedAS-PL A6061 for OE 104210-2180; AS-PL A6371 for OE 104210-2370; AS-PL A6468S for OE 104211-3050; AS-PL A6052 for OE 104210-4521; AS-PL A6063 for OE 1042104591.
Fitment notesSeveral Ridex and Bosch units are sold without the vacuum pump, which matters on the diesel D-4D engines where the pump is driven from the alternator. The Bosch exchange unit carries a £51.61 core charge and the Ridex reman a £30.14 charge, both refunded on return of the old alternator.

A Genuinely Useful, Free Diagnostic Test Worth Trying — Toyota Verso Alternator

If you're hearing a whine or grinding noise that might be the alternator, this is genuinely worth trying before condemning the part: with the engine idling, listen to the noise, then progressively add electrical load — headlights, heated rear window, air conditioning. A genuine bearing fault typically gets louder as load increases. It's also worth listening for whether the noise briefly disappears then returns a second or two after decelerating from higher revs — this pattern is a fairly reliable sign of genuine bearing wear.

A genuinely useful point worth knowing if a noise persists after alternator replacement: it's genuinely worth checking the belt tensioner before assuming the replacement part is also faulty — a worn tensioner pulley can produce a very similar sound to a failing alternator bearing.

It's also worth knowing that a breakdown recovery call-out for alternator failure, particularly away from home, can come with a real premium attached.

Toyota Verso Alternator: Often Blamed on the Battery Instead

On the Toyota Verso, a failing alternator and a simply weak battery share almost the same symptom set at first: dim lights, sluggish starts, charge that won't hold. Mixing the two up is common, which is why plenty of people replace the battery only to find themselves back at the garage shortly after.

Before you buy: alternator output rating varies by engine size and trim, particularly on cars with more onboard electronics. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Toyota Verso Alternator: What It Does

The Toyota Verso's electrical systems and battery charging both depend on the alternator generating electricity whenever the engine runs. If it's healthy, the battery's job shrinks down to starting the engine and handling brief surges in demand, not powering everything else on its own.
