If your C-Max is fitted with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine — one of the most common engines across the Ford range from 2012 onwards — this is genuinely the most important thing to understand before anything else on this page. Unlike a conventional dry timing belt or chain, this engine's belt runs submerged in engine oil, a design intended to reduce friction and noise.
