Before Assuming Your S-Max's Discs Have Warped
A pulsing brake pedal or vibrating steering wheel is commonly assumed to mean the discs have warped, but in the large majority of cases they haven't physically bent from heat at all. What's actually happening is Disc Thickness Variation (DTV) — uneven pad material deposits building up across the disc surface, often during the bedding-in period after a fresh fit — producing the exact same sensation as true warping. Bedding in new discs and pads gradually rather than braking hard early on measurably reduces the risk of this developing.

Brake discs provide the surface the brake pads clamp against to slow the car, converting momentum into heat through friction. Larger, sportier trims of the S-Max typically use bigger discs than standard versions to handle the additional heat generated by more aggressive braking.
